The Restoration
The restoration of the old ‘cascina’ was carried out between May 2005 and July 2007. As you can see from the photographs, the house has been practically rebuilt, with a totally new insulated roof, strengthened foundations and all walls rendered. The house required complete rewiring and a new modern hearing and plumbing system has been installed.
A key feature of the house is the curved ceilings and where appropriate, the old plaster has been removed and the original curved ceiling brickwork sandblasted and exposed.
It is important not to ‘overdo’ such exposure and blend this in with the plastered walls, and our architects have sympathetically addressed this in the best possible way.
All hardwood doors and windows have been manufactured to match the traditional Piemontese style with the cross-bar at the top of each window and shutter. Magnificent curved windows are fitted in the master bedroom overlooking the swimming pool.
Underfloor heating has been installed in all rooms except the top floor bedrooms which have an independent central heating system. A separate log fire system is also installed in the main living room so the house is therefore very warm in the winter months. The thick exterior walls ensure that in the hot summers the house remains cool.
A key feature of the house is separate granite staircases at each end of the property so that exclusivity and privacy can be maintained, should guests require this.
Internally, the villa is fitted to the highest standards with quality stylish bathrooms and modern kitchen. All floors have been laid with modern Italian ceramic and stone tiling which blends perfectly with the traditional feel of the house.
Externally, the portico has been rebuilt, with a new matching roof and traditional Piemontese garage doors fitted and there is an external BBQ area for those long summer nights.
The 13m x 8.5m swimming pool was installed by ‘Des Joyaux Piscine SRL’ the premier manufacturer of swimming pools in Italy, to the same exacting standards as has been maintained for the rest of the house, where only the best materials have been used.
The house is fully alarmed throughout and is very secure.
The finished product is a joy to behold - a magnificent traditional Piemontese property with a modern and exclusive touch for the most discerning of guests.
